Compass Reports Q2 Revenue Surge Following Anywhere Real Estate Deal
Compass, Inc. has announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2026, highlighting the substantial impact of the Anywhere Real Estate acquisition. The company reported total revenue of $4.3 billion, a significant increase compared to the $2.06 billion generated in the prior-year quarter. Management attributed the bulk of this growth to the January closure of the merger with Anywhere, though the company also noted that on a pro forma basis, revenue still rose by 14.3% year-over-year.
Profitability improved alongside the top-line growth. Compass reported a net income of $92 million, up from $39 million in the second quarter of 2025. Additionally, the firm generated $180 million in positive free cash flow during the quarter. CFO Scott Wahlers stated that the company plans to use its cash position, which stands at $694 million, to redeem $500 million in 9.75% Notes when they become callable in the second quarter of 2027.
Operational metrics reflected the expanded scale of the combined entity. The owned brokerage segment recorded a gross transaction value of $155.2 billion, an increase of 98.2% compared to the previous year. On a pro forma basis, transaction value grew by 15.9%. The total number of closed transactions reached 153,009, representing a 7.4% year-over-year increase on a pro forma basis. CEO Robert Reffkin noted that the brokerage has now outperformed the broader U.S. housing market for 21 consecutive quarters on an organic basis.
While transaction volume increased, the company reported a decline in its agent count. The total number of agents fell to 83,184 at the end of the second quarter, down from 84,187 at the end of the first quarter. Compass explained this reduction as a strategic decision within a specific brand acquired via the Anywhere transaction to separate low and non-productive agents. Despite this reduction, the company reported an agent retention rate of 95.5%.
