Compass associate broker Vickey Barron recently sat down for an interview to discuss her lengthy career in the residential real estate sector. Barron, who has completed more than 600 sales, emphasized that while financial metrics are often the focus of the industry, her primary motivation remains serving clients.

Now 69, Barron has received significant recognition throughout her tenure, including the Real Estate Board of New York’s Rookie of the Year award in 2001 and the Eileen Spinola Distinguished Service Award in 2015. Despite the prevalence of million-dollar transactions in her portfolio, she stated that the true value of her work lies in the impact she has on people’s lives rather than the commissions generated.

When asked to identify the most significant deal of her career, Barron did not cite a high-ticket sale. Instead, she described a complex negotiation involving a life estate for a 93-year-old woman. The arrangement allowed the client to sell her West Village townhouse while retaining the right to remain in the residence. Barron noted that this transaction, which prioritized the client’s stability over maximum profit, had the most positive impact on her career.

Barron also discussed the factors that drive her business longevity. She attributed her sustained success to building trust with clients, stating that reliability is the “secret sauce” that keeps her phone ringing. Additionally, she highlighted the release of her book, “Every Move Matters,” as a major career milestone. The book documents life stories and offers real estate wisdom, drawing on lessons learned from her mentor, Dr. Robert Gumbiner, whom she worked with for 20 years. She credits Gumbiner with teaching her to solve problems creatively and focus on strengths rather than weaknesses.

Shares of Compass were trading at $12.28 on Tuesday, reflecting a decline of approximately 0.97% from the previous close. The company currently holds a market capitalization of roughly $9.61 billion.
