The request signals that the national homebuilder is moving forward with pre-development steps for the project, which would depend on its own wastewater infrastructure rather than connection to an existing municipal system. Onsite treatment plants are increasingly common for large suburban subdivisions in fast-growing exurban counties around Charlotte, where utility capacity has not always kept pace with residential growth.
Iredell County, north of Charlotte, has been among the state’s faster-growing areas in recent years, drawing national and regional homebuilders competing for developable land.
