Prop-tech spinout Mainstay buys Truelist and lands $18 million in new financing
Mainstay, the real-estate technology company that was carved out of Opendoor Technologies Inc. as an independent business in 2024, announced it has acquired Truelist, a data-verification provider, alongside an $18 million financing round, according to a report by HousingWire.
The twin moves give the young company both an expanded product footprint and fresh capital less than a year after it began operating on its own. Spinouts from larger platforms often face the dual challenge of establishing independent operations while continuing to invest in technology, making new financing a key enabler of the acquisition strategy.
The Opendoor connection
Mainstay’s lineage traces back to Opendoor, the digital platform for residential real-estate transactions that buys and sells homes through its e-commerce platform and also offers brokerage and title services. Mainstay was separated into a standalone company in 2024, part of a broader wave of established proptech firms streamlining their businesses amid a challenging housing market.
Opendoor itself has seen its shares come under pressure. The stock trades at $2.60, down 1.52% from the prior close of $2.64, valuing the company at roughly $2.57 billion.
What the Truelist deal adds
While the release did not disclose the purchase price, acquisitions of data providers like Truelist typically reflect demand for cleaner, verified contact and property information — a persistent pain point across brokerage, mortgage, and iBuying workflows. Combining that capability with Mainstay’s existing tools could allow the company to serve a wider slice of the transaction pipeline.
The $18 million in financing provides runway to integrate the acquisition and pursue further growth at a time when venture funding for housing technology remains selective compared with the peak years of the last cycle.
