Berkshire Discloses Nearly 10% Lennar Position, Sending Shares Higher

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has amassed a stake approaching 10% in homebuilder Lennar Corporation, according to a CNBC report, a disclosure that lifted Lennar’s stock in Friday trading.

Lennar (LEN) traded at $78.08, up 1.95% from its previous close of $76.58, valuing the Miami-based company at roughly $19.3 billion. The move comes as the homebuilding sector has faced headwinds from elevated mortgage rates and affordability pressures on prospective buyers.

Lennar, one of the largest residential construction companies in the United States, builds homes primarily under the Lennar brand through regional homebuilding segments spanning the East, Central, South Central, and West regions, alongside financial services, multifamily, and lending operations.

A position of nearly 10% would place Berkshire among Lennar’s largest shareholders. Large stakes disclosed by Buffett’s conglomerate have historically drawn significant market attention, as investors often view them as an endorsement of a company’s underlying business, though Berkshire has not publicly commented on its intentions regarding the holding.

The homebuilder’s stock has come under pressure in recent periods as higher borrowing costs have weighed on new-home demand across the industry. Builders have responded with incentives such as mortgage rate buydowns to sustain sales volumes, compressing margins in the process.

What to watch

  • Updates to Berkshire’s 13F filings and Schedule 13G/13D disclosures, which will clarify the exact size and intent of the stake.
  • Lennar’s upcoming quarterly earnings report and any commentary on order volumes, margins, and incentive costs.
  • Mortgage rate trends and housing affordability data that could shape homebuilder demand in coming quarters.
  • Any statements from Lennar or Berkshire Hathaway regarding the nature of the investment.
