Yves Saint Laurent to Open Store at Kering’s 717 Fifth Avenue

Luxury French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent will open a new store at 717 Fifth Avenue, a new report revealed.
According to a market report released by CBRE, the Kering-owned fashion house, once known as YSL for its founder, the late Yves Saint Laurent, will open in nearly 9,600 square feet in the base of the former Corning Glass Building that sits across East 56th Street from Trump Tower.
Saint Laurent is currently at 3 East 57th Street, where it opened in 2003. That store was expanded to 14,071 square feet and renovated in 2015.
According to property records, the original lease on East 57th Street ended in 2022 and had no renewal options. Since the fashion retailer is still there, the company likely signed a five-year extension during the pandemic, which would come due in October 2027. The building is managed by Buchbinder & Warren, which did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Kering bought the lower four floors at 717 Fifth Avenue in January 2024 for $963 million from Jeff Sutton’s Wharton Properties and SL Green Realty. The condominium has about 110,000 square feet that encompasses three floors of retail and one office floor. Most of the retail is occupied by Dolce & Gabbana and Armani.
In December 2025, facing financial pressure, Kering sold a 60 percent stake to the large French private equity investment firm, Ardian, revaluing the commercial condominium to $900 million at $7,830 per square foot, but giving Kering a $690 million cash boost.
It was expected at the time that Kering would begin to bring its own brands under its roof. Along with Saint Laurent, Kering encompasses Gucci, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, McQueen, Brioni plus Boucheron, Pomellato, DoDo, Qeelin, Ginori 1735 as well as Kering Eyewear.
Gucci is housed across the street in Trump Tower and it is unclear whether they will once again extend that lease of nearly 50,000 square feet, which was renegotiated during COVID-19 with a rent reduction and extension beyond its 2026 end, likely to 2031.
Any large build-out for Gucci at 717 Fifth, for instance, would take at least a year or two.
Saint Laurent also has a store at 73 Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District and at 80 Greene Street in SoHo. The brand’s clothing also is sold at Bloomingdale’s and Saks.
YSL was founded in 1961 when couturier Yves Saint Laurent focused on creating clothes that would “set women free.” The brand became part of Kering in 1999. Saint Laurent died in 2008.
YSL’s media reps did not respond to requests for comment on the store movement. Spokespeople for Ardian and CBRE also did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
