Sports Retailer Lids to Open New Shop Inside Penn Station

October 14, 2026 · by Real Estate Presswire Pipeline

Sports apparel retailer Lids is adding another location in New York City, this time inside Midtown’s bustling Pennsylvania Station, Commercial Observer has learned.

Lids, which sells sports hats, jerseys and fan apparel, has inked a 10-year, 1,993-square-foot lease for a flagship location inside the Vornado Realty Trust-managed transit hub. Lids is the largest licensed sports-minded retailer in North America, with more than 1,300 stores, according to tenant broker JLL.

JLL’s Jesse Wolff and Elijah Mehl worked alongside RCS Real Estate Advisors’ Spence Mehl to negotiate the lease on behalf of Lids. Vornado was repped in-house.

“The Penn District is an exceptional fit for Lids because it puts the brand directly in front of an enormous and diverse audience of New Yorkers, commuters, sports fans and visitors every day,” Wolff said in a statement. “With Madison Square Garden steps away, an average of 650,000 people moving through Penn Station daily, a dynamic mix of tenants across the Penn District, and more than 70 new retail and dining additions, this location gives Lids tremendous visibility while putting its products exactly where its customers already are.”

The asking rent was not disclosed, but the average asking rent for retail space in nearby Herald Square was $403 per square foot during the third quarter of 2026, according to CBRE data. Lids’ exact location inside Penn Station was not provided.

Vornado declined to comment, while Lids’ parent company, Fanatics Inc., did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Other retailers and eateries at Penn Station, which opened in 1910, include Birch Coffee, stationary shop Moleskine and outerwear lifestyle brand Rains, to name a few.
