Cushman & Wakefield Rehires Gene Spiegelman as Retail Services Vice Chairman

Gene Spiegelman has rejoined Cushman & Wakefield as vice chairman of retail services, Commercial Observer has learned.
The industry veteran arrives with more than three decades of retail real estate experience, including a previous, 18-year tenure as C&W’s vice chairman and head of retail services for North America. Spiegelman was recognized several times as one of the firm’s top retail producers in the U.S., according to C&W.
Among his achievements was representing Millennium Tower Boston in a 142,000-square-foot lease with Primark in 2016, marking the Irish retailer’s first expansion to the U.S., according to the Boston Herald.
Spiegelman departed C&W in 2018 for Ripco Real Estate, where he spent more than eight years as vice chairman and principal growing the firm’s presence across the New York metro region.
Spiegelman is a multi-time winner at the Real Estate Board of New York’s annual Retail Deal of the Year awards, including a win in 2022 alongside Ripco colleague Peter Ripka for brokering grocery chain Wegmans’ 83,000-square-foot lease at Vornado Realty Trust’s 770 Broadway in Manhattan’s NoHo.
“Returning to Cushman & Wakefield represents an exciting opportunity to build upon the meaningful relationships and experience that I have developed over the course of my career,” Spiegelman said in a statement. “My 18 years at Cushman & Wakefield provided an extraordinary foundation, while the past eight years at Ripco broadened my perspective and experience.”
In his new role as vice chairman, Spiegelman returns to his bread and butter — brokering flagship retail transactions, representing tenants and taking on landlord advisory assignments throughout New York City and nationally.
“[Spiegelman] is a force in the New York City retail market and has proven himself as a trusted adviser to his clients, and as a valued colleague and collaborator within our industry,” Todd Schwartz, C&W’s Northeast regional president, said in a statement. “His return to the firm is a bolt-on addition to our incredibly strong retail team in New York.”
Spiegelman studied government, politics and economics at the University of Maryland, and holds a master’s degree in real estate investment and development from New York University, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Spiegelman is also a co-founder and principal at real estate investment company Sagamore Hill Partners. Among his former employers are Edward S. Gordon Company, which eventually became part of CBRE, and Retail Development Partners, until it was sold to C&W in 2000.
A spokesperson for Ripco declined to comment on the news.
