D.R. Horton Maps Out Cannon Ridge, a New Minneapolis-Area Community Slated for Fall 2026

D.R. Horton, the largest U.S. homebuilder by volume, has unveiled plans for Cannon Ridge, a new residential community in Dundas, Minnesota, with the first homes expected to open in fall 2026. The announcement extends the company’s footprint in the southern Twin Cities metro, where population growth in nearby Northfield and surrounding Rice County has supported steady demand for new construction.

Dundas sits just south of Northfield along the Cannon River corridor, an area that has drawn buyers priced out of closer-in Twin Cities suburbs. New communities in the corridor typically compete on commute access to the southern metro and on lot sizes that are harder to find nearer Minneapolis and St. Paul. Cannon Ridge will add to D.R. Horton’s portfolio of master-planned and infill communities across Minnesota, one of 36 states where the builder operates in 126 markets.

The company, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker DHI, saw shares edge up 0.32% to $138.93 in recent trading, a modest move from the prior close of $138.49. Its market capitalization stands at roughly $39.9 billion. The homebuilder operates across six U.S. regions — East, North, Southeast, South Central, Southwest, and Northwest — spanning land acquisition, development, and residential construction and sales.

A fall 2026 delivery timeline means Cannon Ridge will reach the market well after the industry’s current inventory adjustments play out. Builders nationally have leaned on incentives such as mortgage rate buydowns to sustain sales amid elevated borrowing costs, and large-scale operators like D.R. Horton have used their scale and build-to-rent capabilities to keep production pipelines moving. New community openings in growing secondary markets like Dundas are part of that land strategy, giving the company a runway of lots positioned for when affordability pressures ease.

D.R. Horton has not yet disclosed pricing, floor plans, or the total number of homesites planned for Cannon Ridge. Details on home sizes, amenity offerings, and phases are typically released closer to a community’s sales opening.

What to watch

  • D.R. Horton’s quarterly earnings reports for updates on Minnesota and Upper Midwest community count and sales pace
  • Land development announcements from the company indicating additional Twin Cities metro expansion
  • Broader housing data for the Minneapolis–St. Paul market, including new-home permits and inventory levels
